Get Hired Quick - Top Strategies For a Recession
If these don't work nothing will. Here are my time tested and proven strategies for getting hired in the toughest of times. Remember I'm from RI, the little state that could not produce jobs, for the last 45 years. Hey, it is a great place to visit; I just wouldn't want to live there. Oh wait it is too late already. Well, take it from me as a native Rhode Islander if these tips helped me to survive and prosper they will help you too.
- Work your network:
Somewhere in your MS Outlook Address Book there lies a contact that could help you get an interview because they know somebody with connections. Shouldn't you have your own connections? Are all your contacts aware you need help getting employment? - Temporary jobs, Craig's List Gigs (short-term employment) and Contract positions.
These opportunities are everywhere on the internet all you need is a determination to find them. What is stopping you from using a great recruiter while you are looking for work? Many temporary jobs turn into permanent positions if you prove you are worth it. Avoid all bogus work from home jobs where you are required to pay any fee. - Don't have a pity party do something about it instead.
One of my favorite quotes is: "A dog in the hunt doesn't have fleas." Keep your focus on something positive and constructive. - Get back into fitness and regular exercise. Get those endorphins popping again and feel good.
- Join LinkedIn & Facebook and lookup all your old friends and colleagues from college and work. One of them may already have or know of, just the opportunity you need.
- Get a free resume review from a pro. Make all the changes you are advised to. Then start sending out cover letters as if there was no recession at all. Target industries where your skills and abilities could make the biggest immediate impact. Sell yourself into an interview or hire a writer to handle those cover letters. Two good prototypes should be enough. You can then make minor modifications from there. This way you are creating your own job market that has no other competition. You have just increased your odds of being hired by at least 75%.
- Think Big, think long term and think positive.
"The Magic of Thinking Big" and " The Power of Positive Thinking" are inspirational. Get them on CD and play them in your car while traveling or while dressing in the morning. Program your mind for success. Make sure all your self talk is positive. "Cinderella Man"; "Pay it Forward" and "Rudy" are my favorite uplifting movies. - Finally, if you are in a blighted area, or a career path that has been decimated by the Internet or the recession be flexible and adaptable. Either make peace with a longer commute for better opportunity or go ahead and relocate to a more prosperous area. "God helps those who help themselves."
Follow your passion. When your work is a pleasure your success will be ensured. What imaginary obstacles are preventing you from living your dream?
